In 2008 the Stage 3 students have been given the opportunity to become involved in numerous activities designed to supplement the curriculum areas of Science and Technology, PDHPE, English, Mathematics, Creative and Performing Arts and  HSIE.

This year’s highlights include:

  • Participation is a gymnastics program.

  • Viewing of the film “Hating Alison Ashley” to supplement the extension class’s novel study in literature.

  • Establishment of regular Year 5 assemblies which aim to promote student leadership skills and develop our students’ confidence in the Performing Arts. Classes take turns to present items in either song, dance or drama which has resulted in a noticeable increase in students’ self confidence.

  • Development of public speaking skills through the oral presentation of class assignments.

  • Viewing of a production of “Sadako and The Thousand Paper Cranes” at the Riverside Theatre Parramatta, to enrich the grade’s treatment of this novel.

  • Participation in inter-class debating to further develop teamwork and public speaking skills.

  • Participation in the University of New South Wales Mathematics, English, Writing, Spelling, Computers and Science competitions.

  • Participation in the state’s Maths Challenge Competition by the extension class where considerable success was achieved.

  • Participation in the C.S.I.R.O program “Forensic Frenzy” which developed student’s problem solving skills.

  • Participation in the Linkages Program at Model Farms High School which consisted of four visits covering the subjects: Food Technology, Science, Design and Technology and Visual Arts. This program successfully provided our students with a glimpse of high school.

  • Field trip to Minnamurra Falls to experience an Australian rainforest environment first hand.

  • Point Wollstonecroft Sport and Recreation Camp (Term 4).

  • Year 6 Market Day - our major fundraiser to raise money for our Farewell evening and for the school.

  • The opportunity to participate in a variety of sports and to represent out school at inter-school, District and Regional levels.

  • The opportunity to be leaders and role models to our peers, particularly through our Kindergarten buddy system, SRC and by carrying out the role of School Leader.

  • Involvement in the formulation of the Jasper’s Journal and the Year 6 Yearbook.

  • The opportunity to participate in a variety of competitions and school based programs such as: Arbors, Band, Jazz Ensembles, Dance Troupe, and Singing Groups.
